Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book an ASL interpreter?
For on-site assignments, we recommend booking at least 3 weeks in advance. For virtual (VRI) requests, 1 week is generally sufficient. For large-scale or multi-day on-site events, 4–6 weeks is ideal to secure the right team. That said, we are always open to accommodating last-minute requests; contact us and we will work with your timeline.
Can I request a specific interpreter?
Yes, if you've worked with an interpreter through MIG before and would like to request them for a future assignment, we'll do our best to accommodate that request based on availability. Consistency in interpreting relationships can be especially valuable for ongoing assignments.
What certifications do your interpreters hold?
The vast majority of our interpreters hold active RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) certification. We also work with interpreters holding BEI, EIPA, and state-recognized credentials. For skilled interpreters without formal certification, we conduct a personal one-on-one skills screening to assess their ability before any placement.
Is my organization legally required to provide ASL interpreting?
In many cases, yes. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and various state laws require covered entities, including government agencies, employers, healthcare providers, and public accommodations, to provide effective communication access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Beyond the legal obligation, providing qualified interpreting is simply the right way to ensure full participation and inclusion. MIG can help you understand your obligations and build accessibility practices that reflect a genuine commitment to access.
Can MIG provide documentation for ADA compliance records?
Yes. MIG provides professional invoicing and service documentation for every assignment, which can be used for your organization's compliance records, procurement processes, and grant reporting. We are also a certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), which qualifies for diversity vendor programs.
